Katerina Schöpfer

Research Interests:

  • Large-scale basin geometries, basin evolution and regional geology of the Northeast Atlantic continental margin, in particular Late Palaeozoic and Mesozoic offshore rift basins in the extensional setting of the Irish, the United Kingdom and the Norwegian continental margin.
  • Small-scale detailed seismic mapping of Late Palaeozoic faults in order to improve understanding of tectono-stratigraphic evolution of a Permo-Carboniferous basin in northern Switzerland.
  • Fieldwork and sedimentological study of an Early Permian post-Variscan basin in the NE Czech Republic, in collaboration with Charles University Prague.

Past Projects:

2019-2020: 3D seismic fault mapping of the Nördlich Lägern cube in the Constance–Frick Trough, Northern Switzerland. PI: Kurt Decker.

2017-2018: Back-to-Research Grant 2016

2014-2016: Development of Mesozoic/Cenozoic basins in the Faroe-Shetland, Møre and Vøring regions. PI: B. Grasemann (Univie) & L. Springall (OMV).

2010-2012: A regional stratigraphic and structural synthesis of Mesozoic/Cenozoic basins, offshore Ireland; carried out as a part of the project ‘Kinematic plate reconstruction of the northern Atlantic Ocean’, jointly funded by the Irish Shelf Petroleum Studies Group (ISPSG) of the Petroleum Infrastructure Programme and Nalcor Energy (on behalf of the Offshore Geoscience Data Program with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador).
