Research Interests:

  • Fault-seal processes
  • Rock failure modes, their transition and their structural expression
  • Structure of dilatant normal faults (near surface and at depth)
  • Interaction of faults and preexisting fractures
  • Analogue and numerical modeling of fault zones

Integration of Fault-Seal Analysis and Geomechanics (SeAM)

This two-year project aims to develop a workflow for assessing the volume of clay in a fault-rock and its effect on bulk fault-strength.
The study extends on standard fault-seal predicting methods and data commonly available in exploration and production scenarios. This will help to predict the risk of fault reactivation during drilling- or production-induced pressure changes in subsurface reservoirs.
