The aims of this research project are (i) to improve the structural interpretation of deeply buried Devonian-Jurassic basins along the passive NW European Atlantic margin and (ii) to interpret the Base Cretaceous unconformity in extensive Cretaceous-Cenozoic basins, particularly in areas where the unconformity is located at depths of 8-9 s TWT. The depositional extent of Late Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic sequences in UK and Norwegian regions will be investigated in detail in order to refine the understanding of regional basin evolution. The primary target of the project is to reconstruct large-scale rift basin geometries and their variability (or similarity) along the NW European Atlantic margin (central and northern parts of the margins). The project is conducted using a large data set of a good quality 2D/3D seismic data set together with well data provided by OMV UK/Norway. Interpretation of the data will be conducted using Petrel and IHS Kingdom software packages, which are provided free of charge by Schlumberger and IHS Kingdom, respectively.
