Current Project:

  • Simulating biogeochemical processes under diagenetic conditions with numerical models.
  • Clay mineral behaviour in contact with different pore fluids.
  • Carbonate precipitation in zones of natural/antropogenic CO2 storaging.

Room Number: 2B475

Research Interests:

Patrick, a native Cameroonian, works on Paleozoic clastic rocks (Hochwipfel Formation, Carboniferous) in southern Carinthia and Italy along the Nassfeld road. Based on sedimentological field work he will sample these sections and use thin section modal analysis and heavy mineral data to interpret the sedimentary environment, transport mechanisms, and the provenance of these rocks.

Wolfgang KNIERZINGER

mowglie@gmx.at

Room Number: 2B475
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53467
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interests:

Wolfgang works on the provenance of Ottnangian (Lower Miocene) sands of the Molasse Zone (Northern Alpine Foreland Basin) of Lower Austria, including outcrop and borehole/core sampling. He will use especially heavy mineral chemistry data by microprobe analysis to evaluate source areas and to refine a new depositional model for these Ottnangian sediments ("Oncophoreschichten", Traisen Formation).

Simone LAZZARINI

Room Number: 2B384
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53443
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interests:

Simone, an Italian student, is working for his master thesis in the western part of the Vinschgau Valley in South Tyrol. He studies debris flow activity and patterns of permafrost degradation and glacial retreat in two specific catchments (Cengles/Tschengls and Plaies/Pleisserbach).

Johann REITERER

johann.reiterer2@utanet.at

Room Number: 2B475
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53467
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interests:

Johann is working on a master thesis in the Lower Austrian part of the Molasse Zone (Northern Alpine Foreland Basin). He concentrates his detailed field work on the area around the Wachtberg near Melk, investigating especially the boundary between the Linz-Melk Formation and overlying fine-grained sediments ("Schlier") by using grain size data and heavy minerals. Provenance evolution through time is the second major topic of his thesis.

Maximilian RIEDER

Room Number: 2A376
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53646
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Current Project:

Studying primary Triassic dolomites using high-resolution petrographic and mineralogical tools

Judith RÖHRL

judith.roehrl@gmx.at

Room Number: 2B475
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53467
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interests:

Judith works on a master thesis on subsurface Cenomanian sediments of the Northern Alpine Foreland Basin in Upper Austria, in cooperation with RAG (Rohölaufsuchungs AG). She uses seismic data, well core descriptions, log correlation and other in-house data to interpret depositional environments and to generate facies and thickness/structural maps.

Doris RUPPRECHT

doris-rupprecht@gmx.at

Room Number: 2B475
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53467
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interests:

Reservoir properties of sandstones (Altlengbach Formation) in the quarry St. Veit an der Gölsen.

Anton TANZBERGER

anton.tanzberger@gmx.at

Room Number: 2C344
Tel.: +43-1-4277-53442
Fax: +43-1-4277-9534

Research Interest:

In his master thesis, Toni is investigating the rise and decay of a triassic carbonate platform in NE Styria, Austria. Several profiles are recorded with the aim to reconstruct the extent and palaeo-waterdepth of the Wetterstein-platform.
