Research Interests:

Patrick, a native Cameroonian, works on Paleozoic clastic rocks (Hochwipfel Formation, Carboniferous) in southern Carinthia and Italy along the Nassfeld road. Based on sedimentological field work he will sample these sections and use thin section modal analysis and heavy mineral data to interpret the sedimentary environment, transport mechanisms, and the provenance of these rocks.

Research Interests:

Wolfgang works on the provenance of Ottnangian (Lower Miocene) sands of the Molasse Zone (Northern Alpine Foreland Basin) of Lower Austria, including outcrop and borehole/core sampling. He will use especially heavy mineral chemistry data by microprobe analysis to evaluate source areas and to refine a new depositional model for these Ottnangian sediments ("Oncophoreschichten", Traisen Formation).

Research Interests:

Johann is working on a master thesis in the Lower Austrian part of the Molasse Zone (Northern Alpine Foreland Basin). He concentrates his detailed field work on the area around the Wachtberg near Melk, investigating especially the boundary between the Linz-Melk Formation and overlying fine-grained sediments ("Schlier") by using grain size data and heavy minerals. Provenance evolution through time is the second major topic of his thesis.

Research Interest:

In his master thesis, Toni is investigating the rise and decay of a triassic carbonate platform in NE Styria, Austria. Several profiles are recorded with the aim to reconstruct the extent and palaeo-waterdepth of the Wetterstein-platform.
