Guest professor Barbara Teichert at our department

Dr. Barbara Teichert from the Department of Geology and Paleontology, University of Münster, Germany, stays with us in March for a lecture on 'Formation and significance of biologically-induced early diagenetic minerals' and collaborative work on the formation of glendonites in the Cenozoic.

Her research interests are in the field of authigenic mineral formation and how they can be used as archives of their biogeochemical  environment . The focus lies on microbially-induced, authigenic carbonate formation at methane seeps. Another research topic is diagenesis in marine sediments with fluid-solid  interaction (adsorption/desorption processes). In addition, she is interested in the development and application of new proxies like calcium isotopes to gain insight into the formation processes of authigenic minerals.

Research interests:

  • geology of methane seep locations (modern and fossil)
  • diagenesis in marine sediments
  • formation and recrystallization of metastable carbonates
  • stable, radiogenic and radioactive isotopes
  • paleoclimate reconstructions
